Bequia Easter Regatta, Union Island Easterval 2020 Cancelled

The Grenadine islands of Bequia and Union Island will not be venue to Easter festivities this year.

Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Hon. Luke Browne announced on Facebook on Wednesday (Mar. 18) evening that Cabinet had advised the cancellation of the Easter festivals.

Both, Bequia Easter Regatta and Union Island Easterval have been cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19.

Promoters of events and festivals have already made announcements to their patrons. Packages, deals and prizes have also been postponed.

The Union Island Easterval Committee issued a release, informing patrons that festivities on the island have been postponed.

In the interest of your *safety* and *well being*, we the Union Island Easterval Committee is aligned with the decision issued by the Minister of Health Mr. Luke Brown that Easterval 2020 be postponed. We appreciate your continued support and want to ensure that you and your family remain protected amidst the Covid-19 outbreak. In the upcoming weeks we will provide an update with future dates for the events postponed,” the committee said.

The Bequia Easter Regatta Organization issued a similar statement.

“With an abundance of love and a deep respect for the health of the world as well as for our own Bequia community, we hereby announce the cancellation of Bequia Easter Regatta 2020. We look forward to our 40th anniversary season in 2021 when we’ll again best share with all the magic that is this special place, the maritime pastime that’s embedded in our history, and to the future where we celebrate the unbridled joy of our long-standing sailing culture and races,” the organization said via Facebook.

“Stay the course, be well, be safe, and look forward to the more triumphant & celebratory future of Bequia’s Easter Regatta,” the statement continued.

Bequia Easter Regatta was scheduled to take place from April 8th – 13th, 2020.
