Schools to reopen for Grade 6 & Form 5 students on May 25

Schools across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) are scheduled to reopen on Monday May 25, 2020.

Schools in SVG have remained closed since March 20, 2020 due to COVID-19.

Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Hon. Luke Browne, on Wednesday (May 12) afternoon informed that schools will reopen on Monday May 25, 2020 for Grade 6, Form 5 students and also pupils of technical institutes.

Minister Browne, speaking via Facebook said, “this is part of a phased reopening of schools.”

Previously, Minister of Education, National Reconciliation and Information, Hon. St.Clair “Jimmy” Prince said, “the officials in the Ministry of Education along with the experts in the Ministry of Health set up a kind of tentative preliminary timeline, we’re thinking, maybe if we open soon, maybe the 18th of this month (May) or the 25th somewhere thereabout, preferably the 18th. We might be ready to open schools at that time.”

In an earlier statement on Facebook, Minister Browne said, “BRAGSA would assess school infrastructure to make sure there are sufficient pipes and general facilities to allow students to follow guidelines especially as they relate to hand hygiene.”
