$2000 fine, 6 months imprisonment for persons who break quarantine

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment wishes to inform the public that “quarantine is NOT optional.”

Persons or corporations who break quarantine can be fined under the Public Health Amendment ACT:

27 Y (1) A person who contravenes sections 27 A to 27 X or an order made under any of those sections commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to:

(a) in the case of a corporation, a fine of TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS; or

(b) in the case of an individual, a fine of TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS AND IMPRISONMENT FOR SIX MONTHS.

27 Y (2) Where an offence referred to in sub-section is committed or continued on  more than one day, the person who committed the offence is LIABLE TO BE CONVICTED FOR A SEPARATE OFFENCE FOR EACH.
