COP Colin John thanks public for “patience, cooperation and support” after police recapture escaped prisoners

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John has thanked all officers who participated in the recapturing of prison escapees Veron Primus and Ulric “Chucky” Hanson on Thursday (Dec 10, 2020).

News broke on Wednesday (Dec 9, 2020) morning that the prisoners, both accused of Murder, escaped from Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Kingstown during the early hours of the morning.

Primus was serving a sentence for escaping lawful custody, this being his second time escaping from prison. On October 1, 2020, Primus broke out of HMP and later turned himself in accompanied by Lawyer Jomo Thomas.

Hanson is also awaiting trial for robbery and burglary charges.

A manhunt was launched by the Royal SVG Police Force on Wednesday.

On Thursday, at 9:30am, acting on credible information received, a party of police officers journeyed to a house located in Campden Park and recaptured the escapees.

During the process, a struggle ensued and Ulric Hanson received a gunshot wound to his left leg. He was taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for medical attention, a police report stated.

As a result of the prison break, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John, in a statement, acknowledged that citizens were on high alert and concerned for their safety. Accordingly, the Commissioner thanked the general public for their patience, cooperation and support during this period.
