St Vincent and the Grenadines will break away from tradition this year for the 2024 launch of Vincymas by merging  it with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Tour.

This was announced at a media conference on Monday.

Dubbed “The Hottest Carnival in the Carribean” Vincymas is traditionally launched on the first Saturday in May, which would have been May 4. However, a decision has been made to share the stage with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Tour which will take place from May 15 to 17 in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Head of Marketing for the Local Organizing Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup, Avanell DaSilva, says on May 15, the trophy will arrive at the Argyle International Airport to a welcome ceremony, and will then head to Upper Bay Street for an up street party.

On May 16, the trophy will then head to the Georgetown area, in particular, the Black Point Recreational Park, for a planned photo iconic shot of the trophy on SVG’s black sand beaches, before heading to Kingtown onto North Central Leeward.

On the last day, May 17, the trophy will go to Bequia and then to join the Vincymas launch and DNA street parade around Kingstown.

Chiming in, Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ricardo Adams says the CDC was already planning to move the launch of Vincymas from Victoria Park and take it to the streets of Kingstown.

When the ICC trophy gets back from Bequia, the DNA parade which showcases SVG’s culture, will go around Kingstown accompanied by the ICC trophy. This parade will feature traditional mas characters, steelpan, t-shirt mas and Carnival costumes. The parade will culminate at Heritage Square where the Vincymas Super Bowl will be kicked off with speeches followed by performances from top local artistes and DJs.

A J’ouvert parade is also planned to go around town on Saturday morning which will close off the launch of Vincymas. Adams says the launch will encapsulate 10 days of Vincymas in 24 hours.
